Solar thermal plants, in Italy in particular, are nowadays used mainly in small scale residential applications, for domestic hot water production and space heating.
However, a relevant contribution can be expected from this technology also in other application fields, by using large scale systems: industrial process heat supply, integration in district heating grids, hot water for the hotel sector and solar cooling.
This technical focus, by Riccardo Battisti, deals with the main plant features, the most used design solutions and the economic calculations. The focus is targeted to designers, installers and potential final users.
